Explanation:
The hook of the hamate forms the radial border of Guyon's canal, through which the ulnar nerve and artery pass. Fractures of the hook of the hamate are therefore closely associated with ulnar nerve irritation or compression. Patients may present with numbness and tingling in the ring and little fingers, weakness of intrinsic hand muscles, and decreased grip strength. These fractures are commonly seen in athletes who use bats, rackets, or golf clubs due to repeated impact forces.
